8U Girls County Cup Report
Sunday 26th May 2026 marked the first County Cup experience for the Northants girls, with our 8U team made up of Allegra, Macey, Arianna and Emily. There is real depth in this squad, with all four players competing at a high level.
The format saw each player take on two singles matches and one doubles match against each county, meaning plenty of tennis for these young players.
Match 1 vs Leicestershire
Arianna and Emily set the tone brilliantly, battling through some very close matches to win all of their singles and doubles in this round. Allegra and Macey faced very consistent opponents and fought hard but were just edged out. The tie finished in a well-earned 5–5 draw.
Match 2 vs Nottinghamshire
The energy remained high as we moved into our second match. Arianna and Emily once again got us off to a strong start, continuing their unbeaten run with composed and patient performances. Allegra and Macey both secured their first singles wins of the day, showing great resilience against competent opponents. A fantastic team effort saw us win this tie 7–3.
Match 3 vs Lincolnshire
In our final match, Emily was involved in another close contest, narrowly losing 12–10. The rest of the team played with growing confidence, producing convincing wins across the board. In the second round of singles, Emily, Arianna and Allegra all secured victories, while Macey battled hard against a strong opponent. In the doubles, Arianna and Emily completed a perfect record with another win, while Allegra and Macey were just edged out 10–8.
Going into the final standings, we knew it would be incredibly close, with the title coming down to us and Leicestershire. After a fantastic day of competition, the winners were announced—Northamptonshire!
A huge congratulations to the girls thoroughly deserved after such a determined and consistent team performance.
It was great to see all the girls putting into practice the doubles tactics we’ve been working on in training. Every player gave 100% throughout the day, and it was particularly pleasing to see how well they bounced back from tough matches, quickly refocusing on the next challenge.
A brilliant display of effort, resilience and team spirit this group is showing all the signs of becoming a very strong team. Well done, girls!
