12 Counties 14U Girls Report
Our 14U girls team for this event consisted of Esme, Mia, Sophia, and Aida, who represented the county with great effort and attitude throughout the day.
Due to a late withdrawal from Nottinghamshire, the format was reduced to two matches against Bedfordshire and Essex.
Northants v Bedfordshire
We got off to a fantastic start with a 4–0 win.
- Aida (No.4) delivered a brilliant fighting performance to get the team on the board with a win.
- Sophia (No.3) showed great composure and consistency, winning comfortably in straight sets.
- Mia and Esme both faced powerful opponents but held their nerve superbly, each coming through tight match tie-breaks to secure the clean sweep.
A really strong team performance to open the day.
Northants v Essex
After a short break, we faced a very strong Essex side, resulting in a 0–4 loss, though the scoreline doesn’t reflect how competitive the matches were.
- Aida battled hard against a strong opponent but was just out-hit on the day.
- Sophia faced a creative player and went toe-to-toe throughout a few key moments either way could have changed the outcome.
- Esme (No.1) showed outstanding resilience and defensive skills against another big hitter.
- Mia competed brilliantly against a top-ranked opponent, narrowly losing in a third-set tie-break in a match that could easily have gone either way.
All four players are still young within the age group, making their performances even more encouraging. They were a pleasure to work with receptive to feedback, supportive of each other, and very mature in their approach.
It was great to see the girls competing so well, and I look forward to seeing the girls compete at future events.
