Round 1 vs Berkshire

We started really well against a strong looking Berkshire team, Esme at No 1 played exceptionally well winning her first match. Emma at No 2 battled through a really tough match unfortunately losing out in a 3rd set match tie break. Mia at No 3 struggled to get going in her match, although the opponent wasstrong, in the end losing out in 2 sets. Finally, Sophia had another 3 set battle similar to Emma; she sadly also missed out in a 3rd set match tie break.

Round 2 vs H&W

Esme found it hard to get going in her match and her opponent played well and never really let Esme grow into the match. Emma, battled really hard vs a player similar to herself, but Emma showed more desire and wanted the points more so came out on top 2-0. Mia played much better in her 2nd match, fighting hard through a long 1st set to take it and finally just missed out on the 3rd set match tie break. Sophia’s match was very similar to Mia’s in that it was a real battle through to the end, she won a hard 2nd set to take it to a 3rd, but lost out in the match tie break.

Round 3 vs Leicestershire

Esme started the team off in a really positive way. Playing very well beating her fellow No 1 comfortably. Emma then followed suit, and although it was a tougher match she ended up winning convincingly in 2 sets. Mia would agree with me she didn’t start well in her match, somehow she won a close first set. Then with some encouragement from myself she worked harder in the 2nd and won it 4-0 in a few minutes! Sophia finished the round off with a very good win, beating her opponent comfortably in 2 sets.

All the girls were great to captain, they were responsive to ideas and offered their own when I came onto court. Although they were rightly disappointed after some of their
matches, that emotion is heightened when the scores are so close. We came very close to winning the whole group, a few tie breaks away. It shows that with some more work we have a very strong group here.
